What does a radon map band tell you?

Radon Map Check distinguishes UK area potential from measured indoor concentration. A percentage on a map and a reading in Bq/m³ answer different questions.

The postcode tool checks formatting only. It does not query an atlas, locate your address or calculate a radon level. Every valid-looking postcode receives the same educational walkthrough.

The 3–5% example is fictional and is never assigned to your postcode. No official map tiles or licensed radon data are reproduced.

Even an area with lower radon potential can contain homes with elevated levels. A map colour is not a safety certificate.

UKradon says basements, cellars and underground sites need particular consideration regardless of location.

Before you check

Is this the official UKradon map?

No. Radon Map Check is independent. Use the official UKradon map for published mapping and address checks.

Does a lower map band mean my home is safe?

No map band certifies a home as safe. It describes estimated area potential. A suitable indoor test is needed to find your home's radon concentration.

What is radon gas?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can enter buildings from the ground. Read the radon gas guide for its origin, health context and testing.

What is the UK Action Level?

The UK domestic Action Level is 200 Bq/m³ as an annual average. See UKHSA's published guidance and our risk guide for context. A demo postcode result is not a measurement.
